Shiney's (P)ride
Here's a special car indeed! A 1974 L34 Torana, one of only 263 built and this is a factory H.O optioned car.
According to Laurie, "The car is one of 95 to come with the 3.08 ratio differential. The person (no names) who first ordered the car intended to race it. It was ordered with an option that was only available to people who held a CAMS licence at the time, being the "H.O." option.
This included an oil cooler, 780 Holley, and a fairly wild Iskenderian Camshaft. Unfortunately, (fortunately?) this bloke had his major sponser pull out on him, so he parked the still brand new Torana in a shed where it stayed untill he sold it in 1985!!!
I believe this may be the only L34 with the H.O. option that was never raced. In 1974, this would have been a VERY quick road car. I have not put the old girl over the quarter mile as I am afraid I might bust one of those fragile rear axles, but I can tell you that given a rolling start it stays ahead of 5 litre late model Commodores without too much fuss at all.
It has been on the dyno and produced 249 RWHP (Approx 350 flywheel) which doesn't sound like much but remember that this is in a car that weighs 1100 Kilograms.
I am its third owner and it has so far only covered 31,000 Kilometers.
