To celebrate the launch of the VC Brock Commodore, Petere Brock organised a "Race of Champions". He gathered 11 of his racing colleagues and boy dod they have some fun. Kerry's VC is the number 3 car raced by Dick Johnson.

Background on THE RACE OF CHAMPIONS 1980

Held at Calder raceway, as part of the Australian Grand Prix meeting November 15-16, 1980 as a promotional exercise for Brock’s HDT special vehicles operation. It was a two race format over the weekend.

The cars were all manual VC Brock Commodores fitted with half race cages and mandatory safety equipment (fire extinguisher, shoulder harness etc). The Momo steering wheels, were all hand engraved with the cars SV number and apart from the above features were identical in specification to the production 500 VC HDT’s. These combined with the “000” VC Prototype car made up the total 513 VC HDT Commodores produced.

John Bowe (200pts 2nd/2nd) was declared the winner of this two heat series although Kevin Bartlett finished on the same points (200pts 1st/3rd) and Brock finished third overall (180pts 5th/1st).
