Geoff House of Powerhouse Ford in Cairns is restoring a Wild Violet K code 351 XY Falcon. In part 3 of the restoration we look at the progress he has made with the nut and bolt resto of this rare car.

According to Geoff, "Bodywork now almost completed - only final rubbing, shaping, and fitting to go before going to paint stage.
Note that all panels are rubbed in fitted position on the car, with style lines all marked - to eliminate any potential misalignment problems later. The fineline tape is used to define the lines - and the top half of the panels rubbed down to the tape for the full length of the car. Then the tape is reapplied, and the bottom half is rubbed.
It all makes for a better, cleaner finish.

"Note also that seam sealer and dripcheck is applied to all joins and metal seams on the car - to ensure that there are no unnecessary entry points for water and the resultant rust issues.

"Meanwhile, work has progressed with more of the parts reconditioning - steering wheel re-done, dash rechromed and painted and instruments recalibrated etc., seats reupholstered, and some good original grill inserts sourced.

"And some interesting news which may change the general direction of thr rebuild !! Ford have only recently had information available on the build history of non-GT cars and it now seems that the car was not originally a GS. The GT club staff had previously advised that the history was not available, so the rebuild had gone ahead on the assumption of it being a GS, based on the presence of certain parts in the car - such as the tacho wire in the harness and some of the gauges.
Obviously that could have been altered somewhere in the last 30 years - and indeed it seems it has.

"But not to worry - it is still a factory K-code 4-speed Wild Violet car equipped with dual exhaust, black interior, console etc. To rebuild it like that - with no stripes, no black outs, and skinny purple steel rims could look a bit odd, especially in Wild Violet.

So it looks like it may get a few extras added - like a 4V and Shaker etc. - stay tuned !!"
