1969 Holden HK GTS Monaro 307 V8 4 Speed ... $215,000

Offered for sale is a rare genuine and super sexy '69 HK GTS Monaro featuring the matching numbers 307 V8 and 4 speed manual in Bright Blue Metallic with Black trim. For your inspection from Hobart, Tasmania.

The sleek, pillarless two-door Monaro was introduced six months after the rest of the HK range but soon took pride of place in Holden dealerships across the country. Its 'boy racer' appeal was universal, the Monaro's shape unashamedly based on the glorious US muscle cars of the time. The pillarless two-door coupe design was a new concept for Australians, and with a choice of three models - Monaro, Monaro GTS and GTS 327, Holden were catering for anyone who aspired to own a sporty coupe.

Even if you were a staunch Ford supporter it was near impossible not to fall in love with the design. It's long, wide body, flared wheel arches and sweeping roofline, black rally stripes, unique wheel trims, paint finishes and a tail panel strip that replicated a full-width tail light were irresistible.

And to top it off, the HK Monaro GTS 327 in the hands of Bruce McPhee and Barry Mulholland driving the Wyong Motors entered HK 327 left no question marks that this was a car with the brawn as well as the beauty by winning the Hardie-Ferodo 500 at Bathurst in 1968 against the XT GT Falcon. In fact the HK 327 Monaro filled 1st, 2nd, 3rd and fifth places in the Great Race of 1968 cementing the Monaro as one of Holden's All Stars!

FOR SALE is this stunning 1969 HK Monaro GTS (80737) with body no. 1587-A, originally built at the Adelaide plant and finished in Bright Blue Metallic with Black trim. Rarer than its race bred 327 brother, GMH reportedly sold only 628 307 V8 powered Monaros. And of those, very few were factory ordered with the manual gearbox.

Purchased by the current owner in 2015 from Victoria, the car had been restored in the 1980s and has been garaged ever since. Basically an unrestored maintained car except for an exterior bare metal repaint in acrylic paint, the car presents in stunning condition to this day. The GTS is essentially a very solid survivor grade Monaro.

The matching numbers 307 Chev engine (date cast 10th of May, 1968) with engine number 30776618 has been maintained with only 111,917 miles covered from new. The HK is running a 4bbl Rochester carby but the original Rochester 2bbl carby is supplied with the matching manifold and air cleaner. The engine bay still features the original spark plug heat shields and factory quad exhaust outlets. Mechanically the GTS has been always pampered and is a reliable and enjoyable cruiser. The original 4 speed manual gearbox shifts smoothly and the factory 10 bolt LSD Diff is in excellent condition. All engine bay stickers and markings are in place and the compliance plates have never been removed from the car. The Monaro is also running the original factory shock absorbers.

The interior of the HK is all original and in remarkably good condition with original crash pad, door trims, seat covers and roof lining all still in place. The original steering wheel is in very good condition with no cracks, all the gauges work including the tacho and the factory AM radio and speaker are still there. The HK is optioned with reclining rotary seat adjusters. The dash chrome and timber finish are also original and in excellent condition. The Monaro comes with two sets of original keys. The HK GTS also features all original glass INCLUDING the front windscreen! And the chrome and stainless are in great condition.

The HK GTS is fitted with a NASCO fuel over flow splash shield and genuine Monaro 14" steel wheels with factory hub caps and 215x65 R14 red wall B F Goodrich tyres.

This is a jump in and enjoy car that presents in beautiful condition, doesn't over heat, starts and runs perfectly, has been well serviced, used sparingly and is greatly admired wherever she goes.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own one of GMH's most recognisable and sought after Monaros.
