Forever connected in our hearts and minds to the genius of Harry Firth and the racing legends of Brock, Sampson, Bond, Harvey, Morris, Richards, Forbes, Janson, Bartlett, O'Brien, Negus and Skelton. A race winning combo resulting in a Hardie Ferodo 2, 3, 4 finish in 1974; 1, 2, 3 finish in 1975 and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7th in the 1976 great race. Without any doubt, L34 is firmly stamped into the record books at Mount Panorama.

Developed by Holden, HDT and Harry Firth as a ready-made production race car, the L34 was powered by the trusty 308 V8 reworked by Repco Engine Developments, using much of the thinking from the then current Formula 5000 open-wheelers. It featured a strengthened block, a specific non-production crankshaft, upgraded rods and pistons, along with a special cam, roller rockers, unique heads and a host of other features. It ran a twin point and twin coil ignition, a high pressure fuel pump plus tubular steel extractors and a heavy duty radiator for improved cooling.

The L34 utilised the M21 heavy duty gearbox and stronger back axle, uprated 11" disc brakes up front and 10" drums at the rear and bigger 14" steel Rally wheels. The bolt on flares were there to cover up the wider rubber and inside the centre console and boot mat were deleted to save weight. Holden claimed a modest 240 horses for the L34, though a well sorted L34 developed more like 350 HP.

FOR SALE from Proserpine, QLD, this Salamanca Red SL/R 5000 L34 was completed by GMH on the 21st of August, 1974 and was originally sold through Kerry's Motors, P/L Springwood, NSW.

The original farmer owner then drove the car back to Ayr, QLD eventually trading it at a Townsville dealership in 1998. The car was then purchased by an enthusiast who used the Torana as an everyday car or nearly 20 years. The current owner bought the L34 six years ago and then fully restored the L34. This included a closed door respray in 2 pack Salamanca Red while using the original glass and chrome. Only the windscreen has been replaced.

The interior is in immaculate original condition with excellent original Black Golf Ball trim and door cards, original hood lining, dash, gauges and steering wheel with new carpets fitted. The L34 is showing 62,006 Klms on the clock. The Torana also comes with a Holden Historical Services Letter of Verification, plus receipts for all the works completed.

As with many high performance engines, the original HZ block was replaced early on with a 1976 SL/R 5000 block. The current engine still retains the original HZ engine number as confirmed by the Holden Verification letter. This engine has been fully rebuilt to High Output spec by Dave McLean Engines in Sydney. Dave is well known as the engine builder for the Allan Grice, Craven Mild L34 race engines. The rebuilt engine produces 380HP and 360 Ft/Lb of torque and is running a Holley 780cfm carby, ex. Grice Bathurst '78 L34/A9X manifold, L34/A9X heads, Crane roller rockers, double valve springs, screw-in studs flowed to specs, flat top pistons with Moly rings, L34 conrods with ARP bolts and ACL race series bearings. The L34 runs twin Bosch distributors and a L34 high volume fuel pump. The engine has been balanced and blueprinted and runs a compression ratio of 10.5 to 1.

The M21 gearbox runs a lightened flywheel and the sump is baffled with an added capacity of 6 litres. Genuine L34 headers are fitted and have been ceramic coated. The suspension, brakes and the steering rack have been reconditioned. The car is supplied with a folder of receipts for all works completed.

The original L34 Rally wheels have been fully refurbished and are shod in meaty 225x60x14 BF Goodrich tyres all around. In the boot is another Rally spare.

This is certainly a rare and highly desirable Torana that you will be very proud to own and is ready to be driven and enjoyed. A rare important part of Australian motor racing history and a must have for the Torana collector.
