For 1962 Ford's slogan for the Falcon XL model was "Trim, Taut and Terrific". A huge improvement over the original XK Falcon of 1960, the XL set about firmly establishing the Falcon model in Australia with a commanding win by drivers Harry Firth and Bob Jane at the 1962 Armstrong 500 at Phillip Island. This stunning Falcon XL Deluxe is for sale from Canberra, ACT.

Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday never rang truer and the new Falcon flew out of dealerships at a rate only matched by its great rival the EJ Holden.

The XL Ford Falcon and Futura were introduced mid-August, 1962 boasting engineering changes to strengthen the chassis as well as new styling including a new grille, parking lights mounted in the bumper, new front fenders, a new "air-scoop" trim on the bonnet and larger tail lights. The Falcon was available in standard or deluxe trim and as a sedan or a station wagon. You could choose the standard 144 cu in, 90 brake horsepower or Pursuit 170 cu in, 101 bhp 6 cylinder motor and either a 3 speed manual or 2 speed Fordomatic automatic transmission.

Finding a well preserved example of the XL Falcon Deluxe nowadays is getting harder and this stunning example is one of the best we have ever seen. Running the Pursuit 170 6 cylinder motor matched to the factory 2 speed Fordomatic transmission, this Falcon has been in the care of the current custodian for the last 16 years. Built at the Broadmeadows plant, the Falcon started its life in Melbourne, then went to a Geelong based owner before being purchased by the current owner. The Falcon was treated to a closed door respray in the factory Tasman Blue with Merino White roof in acrylic paint approximately 20 years ago. The XL retains the original chrome, stainless and factory glass. The Falcon is fitted with front windscreen sun visor and rear wheel spats.

Mechanically the original 170 cui high Compression engine was replaced through Ford (see receipt) in May 1977 when the car had covered 45,051 miles. The current owner has maintained the car without regard to cost with recent radiator recore, rear half of the exhaust system, new generator and full service. The Falcon has now covered a genuine 123,839 miles since new.

The Medium Blue interior is all original except for the addition of carpet over the original vinyl flooring. All gauges, wipers, horn, cigarette lighter and lights work. Steering wheel, pedal and gear changer are all factory with the only addition being seat belts front and back.

The XL is riding on factory 13" steel wheels with excellent chrome hub caps and brand new white wall 185/80R13 Maxxis radial tyres. There is an original boot mat, older white wall spare and jack. The XL is fitted with a Ford locking fuel cap, tow bar, trailer plug and Ford branded chrome exhaust extension.

This is a drive anywhere super reliable example of the Falcon XL Deluxe. One of the first Falcons offered in Australia and a car that remained a cornerstone of Blue Oval dealerships over the decades.

The Falcon is on Club registration. Located in Canberra, ACT for your inspection.(Ref. 6357)

And if you like we will gladly arrange a video inspection/road test of the car using WhatsApp and of course there is no issue with door to door freight delivery anywhere in Australia or New Zealand.
