The locally designed and built Ford LTD (meaning Lincoln Type Design) was released in August 1973 to allow Ford to tighten its grip on the local long wheelbase luxury car segment. The Fairlane was still outselling Holden’s Statesman and Chrysler’s Chrysler by Chrysler and the LTD only added more pressure to Ford’s rivals.

Loved by Politicians, CEOs and Wedding Hire Companies, the big Ford boasted a massive 121 inch wheelbase, squared-off rear mudguards, 4 head lamp front design with the signature Rolls Royce style grill and a padded vinyl roof to cover the welding seams on the extended roof. There was also a limo-styled smaller rear window, whitewall radial tyres, power steering, air conditioning, power windows, and an AM/FM stereo/cassette player — not to mention cut-pile carpeting and walnut grained dashboard inlay. Plus, four-wheel power-assisted disc brakes — an Australian first.

Purchased by the current 4th owner in 2007, the LTD was originally sold by Dorsett Ford in Bunbury, WA to a prominent Bunbury family. Running the all matching numbers 351cu in Cleveland V8, this stunning LTD features the factory bullet proof FMX 3 speed automatic transmission and then through to the legendary 9” LSD diff. The 4 wheel disc brakes pull the car up firmly from the super quiet and supremely comfortable and relaxing cruising speeds. Power steering, re-gassed integrated air conditioning , electric windows, tinted glass, heated rear window all come together to create an ultra luxurious interior in which to listen to the factory installed Ford “Superfringe” radio or the Ford cassette player. There are even additional air outlets for the comfort of the rear seat passengers. Perfect for the 1970s, each rear armrest features its own cigarette lighter and control for a reading lamp. All doors have their own courtesy light for the passengers safety and of course there is a pull down centre armrest for the rear passengers. Beside the very minor wear to the drivers seat, the factory Dusk (code U) interior trim is in unmarked condition. The LTD has covered a genuine 114,908 KILOMETRES since new.

Everything has been meticulously maintained by the current owner and literally everything is working as it should. The interior also features as standard, a boot release, electric radio aerial, controls to change between radio and tape deck as well as another control to balance between the original 4 speaker setup with 2 speakers on the rear shelf and 2 in the front kick panels. Once again, everything works as it did on the delivery day. The retractable electric radio aerial works. All lights including the side markers and flashers all work. The 2 speed wipers and washers all work correctly too. Even the rear view mirrors are adjustable from individual controls on the interior of the front doors.

The exterior chrome work is in very good condition with only a couple of scratches on the wheel arch trims. The bumpers and hup caps present as new. All trim is correct as are the badges. The LTD has had an older closed door respray and a new vinyl roof has been installed. Both are to the correct original colours - paint code N ( Regency Blue ) and roof code B ( Black). The paintwork is in good but not perfect condition with some stone chips and signs of surface rust appearing on the bonnet, at the bottom of the drivers door and at the bottom of the rear guards. There is absolutely no sign of any structural rust at all and the current owner has rust proofed all doors and sills.

Under the bonnet, the owner has fitted a brand new battery, a new air conditioner compressor as well as a brand new Holley 500 carburettor. A thorough service included fitment of new plugs, new leads, new coil, new distributor rotor and cap. The under bonnet area presents in undamaged original condition.

The boot is also in excellent condition with the correct carpet still in place along with the original bumper jack in its own carpeted bag. There is also a spare tyre on the original steel rim. A correct Ford repair manual will also be included with the sale.

The current owner has also fitted new shock absorbers and the handbrake cables all work correctly. Once again there is absolutely no sign of any rust in the chassis.

This P6 LTD is in beautiful original unrestored condition and is currently on a full road license in WA until 30th June, 2023. 76 LTD personalised plates are transferrable in WA.
