1971 XY Falcon GTHO Phase 3 - Rare Factory Sunroof ... (SOLD)

Thirteen XY Falcon GT-HO Phase 3s fronted the grid for the 1971 Hardie Ferodo 500 at Bathurst, led by the Ford works' cars of Allan Moffat and John French. Moffat gained pole position with a best practice lap of 2:38.9, a full 10 seconds faster than his time set in the 1970 XW GT-HO Phase 2, making a pretty daunting prospect for the Holden Torana and Chrysler Charger teams. At the end of the Great Race, Phase 3 GT-HO Falcons filled 5 of the top 6 positions with a single LC Torana GTR XU-1 driven by a young Colin Bond in 4th place.

At the time, the GT-HO was considered the fastest 4 door sedan in the world and that combined with it's dominance at Bathurst and in Touring car events ensured the Phase 3 an unmatched reputation making it still to this day the most desirable and collectible Australian Muscle car ever produced.

While racers like Moffat, Gibson, Skelton, Carter, French, Bartlett, West, Seton and Goss could drive a GT-HO at Bathurst flat out down Conrod at 150mph, just turning the key, blipping the throttle and watching that shaker crank over whilst parked in your driveway would make you feel like the King of the Mountain!

Many of us can recall and tell stories of being a passenger in a Phase 3 back in the day, few will even recall driving one on the open road in the era. These experiences have left an indelible mark on us for a lifetime.

Now for sale is this genuine concours restored Phase 3 GT-HO, unique in that it is 1 of only 21 Phase 3 GT-HOs that were ordered from the factory with the much sought after GOLDE sunroof option. According to the ACCHS report this car was originally sold through Prestney Bros. of Sale, Victoria and is one of 66 XY GT-HOs built with the Vermilion Fire and Black trim combination. It is believed to be one of four Vermilion Fire Phase 3s ordered with the Sunroof option and is the only one known to still exist.

In 2017, the current owner embarked on an incredible two year full nut and bolt rotisserie restoration, using the renowned restorer, Chris Dent of Falcon GT Restorations in Sydney, to painstakingly restore this special car to its former glory. Not a single item has been left untouched with amazing attention to detail. Over $300,000 has been spent on this amazing restoration with over 500 photos detailing every aspect of the restoration.
