1972 LJ Bathurst Torana GTR XU1 ... (SOLD)

Strike-Me-Pink! One-off Bathurst LJ GTR XU-1 in oh so Aussie Strike-Me-Pink with factory Flax vinyl with black and white houndstooth cloth inserts. Concours restoration using a replacement body shell with the original compliance plates and the paint and trim combo.

The restoration has gone to great lengths to ensure this is as close as possible to the factory built XU-1. This is a standout Tory that looks and drives as it should. In fact it is hard to take your eyes off this one - it really is that good!

Fully rebuilt engine with factory head and triple Strombergs, through to the factory exhaust manifold and factory exhaust system. Original M21 4 speed manual gearbox and 3.36 Banjo LSD are all there. As are the XU-1 heavy-duty springs, revised camshaft and lightened flywheel.

Flax Vinyl interior is all retrimmed with Black and White Houndstooth inserts, all restored gauges and mint steering wheel. Riding on original Bathurst Globe Sprintmaster wheels including correct centre caps and excellent rubber.

With the Globe Sprintmaster wheels, the LJ XU1 Toranas were capable of hitting 225 km/h down Conrod Straight at Bathurst. In 1972, in the wet and in the hands of a very young Peter Brock, the XU1 defeated the mighty GT-HOs in the Hardie Ferodo 500, earning the title of 'Giant Killer' and an enduring legendary reputation. Located in our Kingsgrove, Sydney showroom for your inspection. (Ref. 5290)
