1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA (SOLD)

The Pontiac Trans Am GTA (Grand Touring Americano) was Pontiac's pride and joy coming standard with the top of the line 350 5.7L TPI (Tuned Port Injection) - the biggest V-8 to be found under Firebird hoods in years. In addition to such appearance items as a revised spoiler and rocker skirts, the $2,700 GTA option included the 350TPI, the TH-700R4 (4L60) automatic transmission, A/C, power steering, upgraded seats with inflatable lumbar and side bolsters, special door panels, epoxy-filled emblems, body-coloured ground effects, a special GTA horn button, and the WS6 performance handling package.

Rated at 210 horsepower at 4,000 rpm, the 5.7 delivered an impressive 315 pounds-feet of torque to the rear wheels. The engine received an oil cooler, while the driver slipped into a fully articulating sports seat, perfect for long journeys. Also included were P245/50VR16 tyres on gold diamond-spoke (cross-lace) wheels, the WS6 performance package (springs, shocks, sway bars), and four-wheel disc brakes. Sadly, the huge hood decals were gone; but according to Pontiac's marketing spin 'a real performance machine didn't need impertinent pictorials to demonstrate its prowess'. Well we sort of liked them...
