1965 Mustang GT Fastback K Code Shelby GT350 Tribute

$SOLD

Now for sale is this genuine 1965 K Code GT Fastback, professionally restored and modified to Shelby GT350 specs over 10 years ago. An original California delivered car that has been in Australia for more than 10 years.

The first year of the Mustang Fastbacks and considered by many worldwide to be an all time classic motor car design, and who are we to argue!

Retaining its original numbers matching K code 271hp 289 Hi-Po Windsor V8 with 4 speed Top Loader gearbox. Now upgraded in Australia with the Shelby America option Paxton Supercharger, giving around 400hp. The motor runs and sounds super sweet and is fitted with a Holman & Moody aluminium intake and modern MSD electronic ignition, and the original factory 3.5:1 9 inch diff is upgraded with a Trutrac LSD centre.

Over 550,000 Mustangs were produced in the 1965 model run, but only 7,723 were fitted with the top spec K code 289 small block, making this K code Fastback a very rare pony. Note pictures showing correct C5AE-6015-E date code casting and 5F09K653709 stamped in engine block.

Of note the Shelby street and race GT350s used the same Fastback body, and K code high performance engine with its robust solid lifter cam and heavy duty internals, and then upgraded it with Tri-Y headers, aluminium intake and 715cfm Holley to give 306hp, finishing it off with the Cobra cast and finned rocker covers and sump as you see here.

This car is also a rare genuine GT optioned car. Noted genuine GT package items in place include front power disc brakes, correct radiator support with punched holes for driving light wiring, dual exhaust hangars in correct front and rear locations with reinforced chassis rails at rear, reinforced floor inserts under back seat for front exhaust hangars, correct 5 dial gauge cluster in the dash and unique GT glove box cover. Also present is the quick action 16:1 GT only manual steering box with correct HCC-AX tag.

The original Rangoon Red colour of this GT Fastback is in immaculate condition, enhanced with Shelby Le Mans spec Wimbledon White stripes. Other Shelby upgrades include the front valence panel below the bumper, fibreglass bonnet with bonnet scoop and pins, 66' rear pillar glass replacing the standard louvres, 66' functioning rear brake ducts behind the side scoops, standard rear valence with turn down exhaust tips not trumpet tips, and dash top mounted gauge cluster.

The interior is immaculate, with all instruments working, Shelby lap belts fitted, and all seats, carpets, door trims and brightwork like new.

The car is sitting on mint 15 x 7 inch Magnum 500 wheels, comes with valuable period documentation and is a rare and very well sorted high quality tribute to the GT350 legend. Located in our Kingsgrove, Sydney showroom for your immediate inspection (Ref. 5613).
