1969 Chevrolet Camaro Yenko 427 Tribute ... (SOLD)

For sale is this absolutely stunning 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Yenko 427ci Tribute. For your inspection in our Sydney Showroom.

At the height of the US muscle car era, many American new car dealers were heavily involved in motor racing programs and this sometimes rolled over into the production of specially customised street cars. One such dealer was Don Yenko, an American car dealer and racecar driver who knew how to manipulate the almost unknown factory “Central Office Production Order” (COPO) program to build road races for his customers. His name is legendary and closely connected with creating some of the baddest road racing Camaro, Chevelle, and Nova street machines of the late 60’s.

One of his most famous builds was the Yenko Camaro. A limited production vehicle, equipped from the factory with COPO 9561, a special performance package including a L72 427/425hp engine, special ducted hood, dual exhaust system, increased cooling capacity and special suspension and COPO 9737 Sports Car Conversion, which included a 140 mph speedometer, larger diameter front stabiliser bar and 15 x 7 Rally wheels with E70 raised white lettered tyres. A total of 201 Yenko Camaros were produced in 6 available colours.

For sale and painted in Code 71 LeMans Blue with Ivory interior is this stunning 1969 Camaro Yenko Tribute. Created by well known Chevrolet enthusiast and builder Doug Arnold in Maryland USA, the car was imported into Australia in late 2017 with 12 miles on the odometer. The car has seen limited use since and now has 2,045 miles on the odometer. It has not been driven in the rain or poor conditions since the rebuild.

Powered by the prerequisite COPO L72 427 that was factory rated at 425hp, backed by a 4 speed manual transmission, the Yenko SC specific striping and Torque Thrust style wheels give the car the perfect look complemented by the sYc embroidery on the seat backs, finished off with the column mounted Suntach and 3 gauge pod under the dash, additions to an otherwise sparse yet purposeful interior. This Yenko Camaro is a great example of the rarest of the rare, a special edition of the extremely sought after COPO Camaro that was an instant legend the day certain folks discovered COPO code 9561.

The attention to detail and effort to accurately recreate what is essentially a new version of the Yenko Camaro is second to none. Some minor variations from original that make it stand out as a showstopper are the painted undercarriage and firewall. The list of new parts is exhaustive and not limited to a new 427 crate motor, M21 Muncie gearbox, 12 bolt diff with 3.73 gears, power steering (Lee Steering custom built box), wheels, suspension, boosted brake system, fuel system, Patriot headers, Flowmaster exhaust, all glass, chrome and bezels, whole interior, Hurst shifter, dash and cluster, SW tacho and gauges, cooling system, wiring harness, rubbers and seals, lights, cables, clips, nuts, bolts and the list goes on.

The car is on full NSW registration, has a left-hand drive exemption for SA and is fitted with ADR compliant seat belts front and rear. It looks great, sounds even better, and attracts attention wherever it is seen.

With only 201 ever produced, and real Yenko Camaro values sky rocketing into the US$400,000 to US$800,000 scary to drive category, this might just be the best way to experience the might of a real Yenko in a much more affordable and usable package. Certainly a great addition to any Muscle Car collection.
