1971 VG Valiant Pacer Hardtop ... (SOLD)

Stunning Hemi Orange 1971 VG Pacer 2 Door Hardtop. Current super passionate Chrysler owner purchased the car in 1998. Yes, 22 years ago.

The Pacer was resprayed 30 years ago. However, there is still original Hemi Orange paint under the carpets, door jambs and in the boot. 1980's style modifications include rolled rear guards to accommodate wider tyres and the addition of bonnet pins. The Pacer is rust free with some general paint chips and wear as to be expected from normal road driving and a 30+ year old paint job. The Webasco sunroof was dealer fitted and still lets the sun shine in and doesn't leak even in torrential rain. There’s even some folklore about this Pacer having been used as a film car for the Bathurst 1000 where the cameraman stood up through the sunroof with his camera.

The Pacer runs a period correct genuine Pacer 245 engine. The original engine was replaced by the previous owner with a VG Pacer Coupe motor, engine number D241A000157. The engine was rebuilt in 2003 using all quality parts, machined, balanced and blueprinted featuring an E49+ cam, hardened valve seats and a rare genuine factory E34 long ram manifold, stamped with factory part no. 3543220 CSA. A new Carter 625 4 barrel carburettor was fitted and Perry extractors flow through to a 3” exhaust with Lukey muffler. The motor runs well, with lots of power and a very nice exhaust note. A larger fan, shroud and 3 core radiator were also fitted. The car stays cool even on really hot days in traffic. And mileage since the rebuild is less than 10,000 klms!

Originally an automatic car, the gearbox was swapped prior to 1998 to a close ratio 4 speed manual factory Borg Warner gearbox. The gearbox and LSD were rebuilt in the early 2000s by Pentastar. The suspension was overhauled around 2000, with all new ball joints, bushings and rebuilt leaf springs, with new shocks installed in 2010. She drives great with no squeaks or rattles. The car has electronic ignition with a new module installed around 2010. Halogen bulbs have been installed in the head lights. Electrically she has been faultless, with all lights, blinkers, horn, heater, stereo all working as they should. The horn has been replaced with a ‘Beep Beep’ Road Runner style horn.

Overall the interior is in good, neat, presentable condition. Compliance plate states X3 interior, but this car has the tan interior from the same Pacer coupe the motor came from. The front buckets are Recaro style seats that have been re-trimmed in a similar pattern to original. The drivers seat shows some wear from use but nothing major. The original seats are no longer available. Door trims and back seat are original Pacer Coupe items. The steering wheel is a 3 spoke Charger wheel, not the 2 spoke Pacer wheel. The crash pad was replaced in 1999 and is as new. There is a blanking plate covering an old alarm hole in the dash to the left of the stereo. The owner will supply a replacement bare dash, from another Pacer hardtop, that needs repainting but is straight and without extra holes. The carpet was replaced around 1999 in the tan colour. All gauges, lights work as they should on the dash. All door locks, handles and windows all work. The headliner is in very good condition.

Wheels are factory steel wheels which have been widened on the back. Front 14x6”, back 14x8” with 215/60/14 front & 245/60/14 back Yokohama tyres with 4 original factory Pacer Hubcaps.

The car has just been serviced with a full tune up, replacement of oil and filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, air cleaner, coolant. The brakes have been overhauled. The accelerator cable and battery have been replaced.

Overall this Hemi Orange Pacer Hardtop is a great car, that has been well cared for. She's ready for a new owner to turn the key and enjoy the car as-is. Central Coast, NSW car. (Ref: 5494)
