1977 Mini Cooper Works Rally Replica (SOLD)

The Mini was the brain child of Sir Alec Issigonis and became the best selling British car in history with a production run of 5.3 million cars from the launch in 1959. This ground-breaking design, with its front wheel drive, transverse engine, sump gearbox, 10-inch wheels, and phenomenal space efficiency, was still being manufactured in 2000 and has been the inspiration for almost all small front-wheel drive cars produced since the early 1960s.

Beautifully presented and nicely modded this 1977 Leyland Mini Cooper has been built as a tribute to the Mini Cooper S Works Rally car and is now for sale after spending many years in storage in Tasmania. This Mini, built in February 1977 is believed to be a pre-production LS model. The 1275cc 4 cylinder engine runs a 45mm twin side draft Weber carburettor, roller rockers, stainless valves and mild cam through to a factory 4 speed full synchromesh remote change gearbox.

The car has twin 25 litre fuel tanks and twin fillers. The original drum brake front end has been replaced with front discs with larger rotors and rear factory drum brakes. Stepped drums were used on all wheels originally which were 1" wider than standard providing a wider stance and making the flares necessary. Riding on 13" Minilites including the spare wheel and street legal Yokohama race rubber.

While not a show car the paint is near perfect with nil rust or damage and the glass is unmarked. The trim is also in perfect condition and the steering wheel is a stylish MotoLita timber example.

If you are unable to inspect this Mini in person due to the Coronavirus, we can arrange a live video inspection of the car for you. This will allow you to go right through the car while you are on the phone including a test drive so you can have a VIRTUAL INSPECTION in real time. You can also arrange for an independent mechanical/body report and of course we will arrange secure covered transport to your door.
