1968 Holden HK Monaro GTS 327 Bathurst - Silver Mink ... (SOLD)

For sale a stunning rare genuine 1968 HK GTS Monaro 327 Bathurst in the hero colour of Silver Mink with black trim for inspection at our Sydney Showroom.

The sleek, pillarless two-door Monaro was introduced six months after the rest of the HK range but soon took pride of place in Holden dealerships across the country. Its 'boy racer' appeal was universal, the Monaro's shape unashamedly based on the glorious US muscle cars of the time. The pillarless two-door coupe design was a new concept for Australians, and with a choice of three models - Monaro, Monaro GTS and GTS 327, Holden were catering for anyone who aspired to own a sporty coupe.

Even if you were a staunch Ford supporter it was near impossible not to fall in love with the design. It's long, wide body, flared wheel arches and sweeping roofline, black rally stripes, unique wheel trims, paint finishes and a tail panel strip that replicated a full-width tail light were irresistible.

And to top it off, the HK Monaro GTS 327 in the hands of Bruce McPhee and Barry Mulholland driving the Wyong Motors entered HK 327 left no question marks that this was a car with the brawn as well as the beauty by winning the Hardie-Ferodo 500 at Bathurst in 1968 against the XT GT Falcon. In fact the HK 327 Monaro filled 1st, 2nd, 3rd and fifth places in the Great Race of 1968 cementing the Monaro as one of Holden's All Stars!

For sale is this stunning restored 1968 HK Monaro GTS (81837) body # 13935B which was originally built at the Acacia Ridge, Brisbane, QLD plant and finished in Silver Mink metallic with Black trim. The Monaro presents in beautiful unmarked condition throughout and features the original matching numbers 327 V8 engine, the original Rochester Quadrajet carby, big nut master braking system and factory quad exhaust outlets. The HK is fitted with after-market MSD ignition and extractors.

A three owner car, the HK was sold to the original owner a Mr. Sweeney of Sweeney's Garage, a mechanic from Strathpine, QLD in 1968. It was then sold to a Mr. Peter Townsend in 1971. He was Sweeney's apprentice and always lusted after the 327. He used the car until 1979 and it was then layed up under his Mum's house until it was sold to Mr. Ben Glover in 2004. Over the next seven years, Ben restored the HK GTS 327. The body was stripped and there was no rust or damage. The interior was retrimmed to factory spec and Ben completed the car in 2014 and then sold the car to the Gosford car museum in 2018. Ben has lots of photos of the restoration.

The GTS 327 features re-trimmed black vinyl seats, original crash pad, restored steering wheel, all working gauges and factory AM radio. The car is showing 115,931 miles from new.

The Monaro features the signature GTS wheel covers, excellent wheel arch molds and is riding on excellent red walled Supercat 195/70R14 radial tyres with a steel spare with good rubber.
