1970 HG GTS Monaro - 308 V8 4 Speed Manual
This is perhaps the best HG GTS Monaro we have ever come across. A true SURVIVOR quality car, best described as a Monaro reference car and guaranteed to blow your mind.
Originally purchased by Mr. Allan Street from Karrongulla Cres, Primbee, NSW, through Lawrence Motors Nowra. Allan ordered this gorgeous Indy Orange/ Black Vinyl trim Monaro with the 308 engine, Saginaw Manual Transmission, 3.36 LSD differential, Radius Rods, Black Side Winder stripes & Bonnet Patches, Recliner Bucket Seats, Air Shock Absorbers and red band D70 tyres.
Delivered on the 9th September, 1970 the car was registered with NSW plates AS-149 and remained as the family car until 1997 when it was traded on a brand new VS Commodore. The Monaro was sold with 131,000 miles on the clock. Very early in the piece, one of the hubcaps came loose from the Monaro so Allan decided to drive the car for almost 30 years without the Hubcaps, thus preserving those amazing condition hubcaps which are now fitted back on the vehicle.
Describing this car with words only will never be enough as the car is of true reference standard. Its a True Original Survivor with paint touch ups over the years & the usual maintained servicing as required. The Car now shows 147,910 miles on the clock with its original Log Books, Owners Manual & the Super Rare Production Broadcast Sheet (Build Sheet), very rarely seen on any Holden period.
Its originality is just simply overwhelming. The numbers matching Born With motor has never been removed from the Vehicle. All the original rare 308 components are all intact, including the original numbers matching Carburetor, Choke set up, Air Cleaner, radiator, fan shroud, super rare early water pump, Master cylinder, Starter motor, rare clips etc.
Even the original ignition leads come with the car as fitted in 1970. The original date coded Saginaw, the date coded tail shaft, date coded 10 Bolt Salisbury Differential are all intact and have never been removed. The underside features the original inspection marks, Production line coded stamps, Painted date codes, Chalk marks and factory over-spray all rarely seen on any Holden car from this period.
Another rare feature on this particular car, is the fitting of the incorrect console from new on the factory production line. Production fitted a 6 cylinder type console rather than the V8 version with the side extension to suit the Saginaw V8 shifter mechanism. This Factory Fault has always been noted at every Monaro Nationals the car has been presented at. It's now fitted with a full Super Rare Genuine New Old Stock (NOS) Nasco Dual exhaust system as per factory original!
The Interior is completely original including the original carpet, roof lining, door cards, Steering wheel, Gauges, Dash top and Glove box with the exception of the front seat bases that were recovered many years ago with NOS material & re-sprung as part of its maintenance. The original 11 transistor Air Chief push button radio, original rear speaker with fader control and the super rare genuine blue tip antenna are also still in place.
The boot area is all intact with the original matt, jack, tools and original date coded spare fitted with a brand new red band D70 tyre. The wheels & hubcaps are all the original ones to the car, all date coded with a brand New set of Red Band D70 tyres as per original.
All the original date coded glass is in place including the front windscreen which is considered so rare !! Even the exterior mirror is the original one, as fitted from the production line, with NO Nasco stamping as it's supposed to be. The car has been entered in The Monaro Nationals in 2002, 2004 & 2010. And each time it has won its class - First in HG Factory Authentic 2002 & 2004, then in 2010 winning the newly introduced Survivor class up against all models of Monaros entered in this class.
This car is of reference standard, with its completeness just simply amazing. Its ready to be entered in any Monaro Nationals and could potentially win once again.
HT or HG Monaros featuring the 308 with the Manual Transmission are considered extremely rare. In fact, much rarer than a 350 optioned vehicle. There have been very few of these cars appearing at any Monaro Nationals over the years. And with its impeccable presentation, originality and full known history, this is a unique opportunity to acquire what is considered a gold standard Monaro.
