Now for sale this immaculate 1973 Holden HQ Monaro LS in Juniper Metallic, located in Wangara, Perth.

A completely new generation body design emerged with the HQ series in July 1971, including the new Monaro 'LS' ("Luxury Sports") model. With famous Holden designers such as Leo Pruneau, Phil Zmood and Peter Nankervis on the design team it was no wonder that the HQ was such a success.

Pruneau worked on the nose cone, settling on three variants; a simple design for the Belmont/Kingswood/ Monaro, quad-headlights for the Premier/Monaro LS, and a Pontiac-style split grille for the Statesman. With the Monaro’s front styling inextricably linked with that of the sedan, the team spent a great deal of time refining the unique rear end.

The HQ’s basic design was finalised mid 1969, on track for release in July 1971. The base Monaro remained a Kingswood in all but name, with the standard engine growing to a 173ci six, still backed by a three-speed manual. The Premier-spec Monaro LS added some sophistication to the range, with the base offering a 202ci six, with options for three V8s - 253, 308, plus 216 examples receiving the Chevy 350.

And the punters loved the result. A massive 485,000 HQs were sold of which 13,872 were Monaro LS and Monaro GTS coupes.

For sale is perhaps one of the best surviving HQ Monaro LS in Australia. Previously a one owner car, now in a serious classic car collection in Perth, the car is presented in Juniper Metallic with all original interior and a genuine 50,786 miles from new. Originally purchased by a Mr. and Mrs. Fiedor of Hectorville, SA, the car was sold by Freemans Motors Ltd of Adelaide on the 3rd of May, 1973. The Fiedors traded their 1962 EK Holden Special on this sleek new HQ LS Monaro and optioned the car with Floor Console, Mud Flaps, 13 transistor P.B. Radio and a Weathershield.

Mechanically, the Monaro runs the all matching numbers beautifully maintained 253 V8 and Trimatic auto. The HQ drives like a new car with factory power steering adding to the luxury feel of the LS package. The interior is totally day one and in impeccable condition with a minor heater box water stain to the left hand side front passenger carpet. There are no modifications on the inside to the LS Monaro and only a closed door respray with the original Beige Vinyl roof still fitted to the car. The chrome and glass are also original and in excellent condition.

Riding on GTS rims with excellent red walled tyres. The Monaro also features a spare on the original steel rim, original tools, rubber boot mat and vinyl spare wheel cover.

Current owner since 2015. The car still retains its original SA Number Plates RYN-483 as per the log books.
