1987 HDT VL Brock Commodore Group 3 Signature Series - Build No 4175
Brock was not a man to step down from a fight. His belief in the performance enhancing abilities of his Energy Polarizer led to the end of an incredibly successful relationship for both Holden and Brock. Undeterred by threats from GMH, Brock continued on with his planned launch of the Brock Director and Signature Series VL Commodores. However, with only a very few of these special Brock Commodores built, this project became a casualty of the eventual Holden/Brock split up.
Of the 38 VL Group 3 Signature Series built, Build No 4175 was ordered through United Motors, Adelaide, SA with every option box ticked. Running the all matching numbers 304 V8 High Output V8 (187kw), Build No 4175 was factory optioned with the Borg Warner T-5 5 speed manual gearbox, as well as an electric steel sunroof, power windows, HDT stereo, tinted windows, Cobra alarm and power mirrors.
Brock treated the 304 V8 to hand finished high comp cylinder heads, a match ported inlet manifold, a HDT Grp 111 camshaft, a blueprinted carby, cold air induction, a set of extractors and a blue printed distributor. In addition the Group 3 was fitted with a heavy duty fuel system, HDT oil filter and the engine was dyno tuned for max performance and fuel economy.
Build No. 4175 was also optioned with the pricey Borg Warner T-5 5 speed manual gearbox (a $4,455 option at the time) a rare option as most Group 3s produced were fitted with the Trimatic automatic gearbox. In addition, the Group 3 was fitted with unique to Brock 16 x 7 inch JJ HDT II Aero alloys. You'll no doubt recollect Brock's recommendation to run the Bridgestone RE71s at 22 PSI.
Externally, the Group 3 was enhanced with a unique front air dam, body kit and boot spoiler, Group Three badging, the pop-up headlight system, boot and bonnet struts and of course the steel electric sunroof.
Internally, this Group 3 got HDT Sports Seats fully retrimmed in an unique to HDT fabric, rear head rests, a 4 speaker sound system, a HDT Momo steering wheel, foot rest, electric exterior mirrors, Air-conditioning and a Cobra car alarm.
A very special one off car due to the options fitted. Original condition, never restored with just three owners from new. And with only 76,468 klms driven from new, Build No. 4175 is supplied with its original HDT build sheets, order documents, authenticity papers and pre-delivery sheets.
