1992 Tickford Falcon EB GT - Build No.24 ... (SOLD)

It's taken a while for the EB GT Falcon to get on the collector radar. And now we are starting to see the prices of these limited edition Tickford GTs start to climb. For sale is Build No. 24, a totally original EB GT in Cardinal Red with only 33,972 kilometres on the clock that was originally a Ford 3999 Executive vehicle with Ford's President Jac Nassar as the original driver. For your inspection at our Sydney Showroom.

The EB Falcon GT was built as a limited edition model to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the launch of the XR Falcon GT. Aussie car enthusiasts had reacted more than favourably to a heavily modified EA Falcon GT built by Ford engineers to test whether there was still demand for a Falcon GT on the Aussie market. This car was fitted with a 351 Cleveland engine among many other performance modifications, but was deemed unviable largely due to the cost of engine bay modification to the E-series Fords. However, the concept was back the following year with a revised Windsor powered GT developed through a joint venture of Ford Australia and Tickford Vehicle Engineering (TVE).

According to the late Howard Marsden, the then head of Tickford Product Planning, "manufacturers were no longer obliged to build homologation specials in order to race their cars, so the EB GT was designed (as was the XR GT) as a quick luxury car, or Grand Tourer in the truest sense, rather than a thinly-disguised production racer".

Powered by the Mustang derived five-litre powerplant, the EB GT produced 200kW at 5250rpm and a torque figure of 420Nm at 4000rpm. Top speed - around 230km/h and a standing quarter in a little over 15 seconds.

The GT was back and the 265 EB GT limited edition specials sold out immediately to a V8 starved Ford audience.

For sale is Build No. 24. Originally a 3999 Ford Executive vehicle, the car was originally used as a company drive car for President Jac Nassar before being sold by Gregory's Ford, Braddon, ACT to FAPM an automotive industry advocate organisation in September, 1993 with approximately 10,000 kilometres on the clock. It was again used as the Director's car before it was sold to the current owner in May, 1994 with 22,200 kilometres on the clock. Since then the car has been part of an extensive Ford collection and has been recently fully serviced and is now on historic NSW registration. The car is currently showing 33,972 kilometres from new.

In absolutely perfect condition throughout, the car comes with the original log books, owners manuals, two sets of keys, a letter from FAPM noting their ownership and the Ford executive use of the car, a mint condition EB GT Falcon sales brochure and two sets of EB GT floor matts. The car was also used by Dinkum Classics to model the 1/24th scale version of the EB GT and Dinkum Model 13/99 is included in the sale. The car also attended the 75th Anniversary Ford Homecoming Rally in 2000 in Melbourne and the yellow homecoming sticker appears in the rear window. The GT also still has the Dealer's stock number Dymo label on the front windscreen.

The Cardinal Red paint is in perfect all original condition with no marks or wear at all. All panels are original and all exhibit the factory VIN label stickers. The "Ironbark" Howe leather sports seats are in as new condition with no wear and the rear seat features the blue “GT” embroidered in the centre of the rear backrest. The door cards incorporate leather and burl walnut inserts and the front passenger's door features the unique TVE GT build number badge 24. The 4-spoke Momo leather wrapped steering wheel with integrated cruise control system is in as new condition and is still supple to the touch and shows nil wear.

The console and dashboard are leather-trimmed with Burl walnut inserts applied. Grey loop pile carpets are fitted with contoured grey loop pile floor mats with “GT monogram” (2 sets). The dash includes a 200kph speedometer, 6,000rpm tacho with 5,500rpm redline, fuel level, temperature, voltage, oil pressure, high beam warning light, hand brake warning light and a digital trip computer. There is also ice cold working climate control AC, cruise control, digital trip computer, power mirrors, power steering, power windows, power antenna, 9-speaker Alpine premium sound system (with tape deck), remote central locking and Ford's Smart Lock immobilizer system.

Build No. 24 is fully optioned as befits a Ford Executive vehicle with Sunroof which was an additional cost option of $1,972, CD-player (6-stack system fitted in the boot) an additional cost of $789 and the Deluxe pack option including paint, corrosion and fabric protection which cost an additional $1,175.

The GT sits 35mm lower than the standard Falcon/Fairmont at the front and 32mm lower at the rear and rides on unique 17 x 8.5 inch 5-spoke alloy wheels (including a full-size spare), finished in a pale silver-gold colour. Originally fitted with Pirelli 245x40 ZR 17 P Zero tyres and locking wheel nuts with special coded adaptor socket, the current owner has fitted brand new Pirelli Cinturato P7 245x40R17 tyres.

Like the XR GT Falcon, the EB GT was the car that restarted and reinvigorated the GT brand that eventually led to the formation of Ford Performance Vehicles. Just as the XR GT was a limited production vehicle that spawned such giants as the Phase 1, 2 and 3 GTHO Falcons, the EB GT was the beginning of the FPV brand culminating in the fabulous FPV GT-F. It also re-started the racing rivalry between Ford and Holden bringing this fabulous rivalry into the hearts and homes of a younger generation of Aussies.

At 30 years of age, the EB GT is now old enough to be registered on club plates and the audience who grew up with these cars racing at Bathurst in the hands of Dick Johnson, Glenn Seton, Tony Longhurst and John Bowe now have the cash to consider buying one as an enjoyable, very drivable and highly collectible Aussie muscle car investment.
