2000 HSV VX GTS 300 Build No.11
HSVs VX GTS 300 was a pretty special limited edition model offering a whopping 300kW of power (402hp) from a specially developed Gen III V8. Rather than locally modify the already existing LS1 engine, HSV wanted to develop a special Gen III engine totally unique to Australia. In addition, HSV wanted to have the engines supplied in a just in time supply chain format so that the engines could go from the ship to Holden’s Elizabeth production line in one seamless move and land in the engine bay of a designated HSV GTS, an until then unprecedented exercise in logistics.
HSV established a working relationship with Corvette hot shop, Callaway, to develop a benchmark powerplant for Australia’s unique breed of heavy premium muscle sedans. Extensively modified internally, the resulting C4B engine delivered a genuine 300kW (402hp) and 510Nm. Each engine was sent from GM Powertrain’s Romulus plant to Callaway’s Connecticut facility to be reworked then inserted back into the Australian supply line. The transmission offered was the Tremec six-speed transmission with HSVs 3.91:1 Hydratrak limited-slip differential ensuring monstrous acceleration.
HSV also spent big money on tying down the front end and sharpening-up the steering while restoring the vital rear control links that were costed-out of the VT range. A rich blend of red and black velour trim reflected the Phantom Black and Sting Red colour choices. The VX GTS 300 also featured for the first time a giant 5 spoke 19 inch wheel package developed specifically for the model.
This was a drivers car. Not a car for the lazy or disconnected driver. The GTS 300 was good for a zero to 100km/h time of 5.1 seconds and a standing 400m of 13.3 seconds.
Only 287 were built, retailing for almost $100,000 at the time. AMCS is proud to present Build No. 11 for sale.
