For sale a rare genuine unrestored three owner log booked '69 HK GTS Monaro 186S in Bright Blue Metallic running a date code correct 307 V8 and Powerglide with the matching numbers 186S engine supplied with the sale. Located in Adelaide, SA.

The sleek, pillarless two-door Monaro was introduced six months after the rest of the HK range but soon took pride of place in Holden dealerships across the country. Its 'boy racer' appeal was universal, the Monaro's shape unashamedly based on the glorious US muscle cars of the time. The pillarless two-door coupe design was a new concept for Australians, and with a choice of three models - Monaro, Monaro GTS and GTS 327, Holden were catering for anyone who aspired to own a sporty coupe.

Even if you were a staunch Ford supporter it was near impossible not to fall in love with the design. It's long, wide body, flared wheel arches and sweeping roofline, black rally stripes, unique wheel trims, paint finishes and a tail panel strip that replicated a full-width tail light were irresistible.

And to top it off, the HK Monaro GTS 327 in the hands of Bruce McPhee and Barry Mulholland driving the Wyong Motors entered HK 327 left no question marks that this was a car with the brawn as well as the beauty by winning the Hardie-Ferodo 500 at Bathurst in 1968 against the XT GT Falcon. In fact the HK 327 Monaro filled 1st, 2nd, 3rd and fifth places in the Great Race of 1968 cementing the Monaro as one of Holden's All Stars!

For sale is this largely original 1969 HK Monaro GTS (80737), originally built at the Dandenong, Victoria plant and finished in Bright Blue Metallic with Black trim.

Purchased by a Mr. K.G. Faithful of Omeo, Victoria on the 3rd of April 1969 from Bairnsdale GP Motors in Bairnsdale, Victoria, the HK GTS is basically an unrestored car, featuring an older acrylic repaint approximately 30 years ago with original paint in the engine bay, door jambs and boot. The paint is shiny and looks good from a distance but the car would definitely benefit from a fresh repaint in the future. The body shows minimal surface rust and no damage or filler and looks to be essentially a very solid survivor grade unrestored Monaro.

The GTS is running a period correct 307 Chev engine with a Rochester 2bbl carby, original exhaust manifolds, spark plug heat shields and quad exhaust outlets. The Monaro has been mechanically maintained and is a reliable and enjoyable cruiser. The original 2 speed powerglide feels fine, and shifts smoothly. The original engine bay stickers and markings are also all still in place and the compliance plates have never been removed from the car. The matching numbers short 186S motor is supplied with the original head, crank and original block.

The interior of the HK is in amazing original condition with excellent original black trim, door cards, hood lining, crash pad, steering wheel and console. All the gauges work, dash lights and the factory AM radio is still there and working. The Monaro is showing 66,410 miles and comes with the original owners log books, manual, two sets of keys, one being the original, receipts, registration papers and some documents.

The HK is riding on genuine Monaro 14" steel wheels and original hub caps with Sumitomo 185/75R14 tyres. There is also a boot mat and spare.

In the current ownership of an 85 year old for the past 13 years, the HK GTS is now ready for its next custodian. Enjoy it as is, or restore this beautiful documented and matching numbers GTS Monaro to its former glory. Either way, this is a car you will be proud to own.
