One can only imagine that this might have been what Holden pictured as the successor to the triple Stromberg fed LJ XU-1 - the Torana GTR XU-1 V8.
The Holden Dealer Team developed a 300 bhp (224 kW; 304 PS), 308ci V8-powered version of the GTR XU-1, which raced in Sports Sedan racing in the hands of Brock and Colin Bond. The car was extensively road tested by HDT racing boss Harry Firth and young team engineer/driver Larry Perkins, but the car never made it past the prototype stage because of the political pressure placed on the big three manufacturers during the 'supercar scare' of 1972.
Well, the punters might have missed out in 1972, but you don't have to. For sale is an original 1972 LJ “S” 2 door Torana now an XU-1 Replica running a Queensland complied and registered Holden 253 V8 and M21 4 speed. The motor is balanced and runs a big cam, head work and a 4 barrel Rochester carby, Pacemaker extractors and a brand new 2 1/2" exhaust through to the rear.
All work has been carried out professionally and on a rust free beautiful body. The Torana is freshly painted in Orchid Metallic and features a genuine GTR interior with front SAAS touring seats, a GTR steering wheel, GTR XU-1 stickers and badging and a reconditioned front end, brakes and new boot and door rubbers.
Riding on original Globe Sprintmaster mags with new Powermax 205/60/13 tyres this little Torana runs and drives perfectly, has awesome power and sounds tough.

Vehicles offered for sale through AMCS are the responsibility of the Owner / Seller. AMCS acts as the Seller's agent and relies fully on the information provided by the Seller of the vehicle in the advertising and sale of each vehicle. AMCS takes no responsibility for the accuracy or veracity of the information provided by the Seller.
When a Buyer wishes to speak to the owner or inspect a vehicle listed for sale on the AMCS web site, AMCS will request a copy of the potential buyers driver's license or a business card along with an email address and phone number. This is provided to the seller as confirmation of the legitimacy of the buyer and the seller is then asked to contact the potential buyer to discuss the car and set up an inspection if required.
The Buyer must make his own enquiries and inspections regarding the condition, authenticity and veracity of the vehicle and any statements made by the Seller, and satisfy themselves in all aspects prior to purchasing the car from the Seller. The Buyer understands there is no warranty or guarantee offered by either the Seller or AMCS.
If upon inspection the Buyer is not satisfied with the car for any reason and does not wish to proceed with the purchase the owner is advised and any personal details are deleted from AMCS records.
If the Buyer is satisfied with the car and a price is agreed to with the Seller a formal tax invoice is prepared by AMCS and sent to the Buyer for payment to the AMCS audited Trust Account. AMCS also receives a formal Bill of Sale from the owner stating the car is free of encumbrance and noting banking details for the transaction. Once AMCS receives the total payment cleared into its trust account a transfer is then made to the Seller.
AMCS receives a fee of 7.5% (incl. GST) of the sale price for assisting the Seller to sell the vehicle. There is no fee or Buyer's premium charged to the Buyer.
