Now for sale is this genuine LH SL/R 5000 located in Perth, WA.

With only 85,512 genuine kilometres since it left the GMH’s Dandenong plant in May, 1974. The Torana comes with the original HT prefix engine (as an assembled short block) on a stand, original front seats, original front disc brakes, original jack, other spares shown in the photos and receipts/engineering reports from the last four decades.

Owned by the current owner for the last 13 years the SL/R 5000 was previously a weekend toy and show car/trophy winner in the 1990s. During that period it was fitted with genuine Recaro recliners, an uprated Muncie M21 gearbox with Hurst shifter, Autometer gauges, 9" diff, Hotwires, A9X style flares and decals, all of which were popular enhancements at the time.

Originally Saffron Metallic, the car was professionally two-pack painted Tuxedo Black in the early 2000s. In 2019 the car was fitted with many high dollar performance, reliability and safety upgrades. These include a rebuilt 308, adjustable power steering with cooler, remote oil cooler and Canton racing accumulator. To strengthen and improve reliability, the 1976 year COME Racing stroked engine was decked, half ‘HardBlok’ treated and modified for priority mains oiling. It has been fitted with top dollar parts, including an ASR racing sump, Crow hydraulic roller cam, YellaTerra rollers, Tuff mounts, Bosch starter and alternator, SFI spec damper, Hercules BBC Gerotor oil pump, L34 spec heads, Wiseco pistons and rings, ARP mains and head studs, Pacemaker ceramic coated headers, Torque Power dual plane intake, ICE electronic ignition and topped off with a Holley Sniper EFI system with Aeromotive in tank pump and custom hardlines. No expense was spared, with AN fittings and hoses used throughout.

Wiring and cooling systems were also upgraded, with a Painless trunk kit, immobiliser and remote battery and isolators. All electronic gauges were calibrated in 2019 and include an aftermarket fuel level sender. In 2020 the diff was also upgraded to a 3.5 ratio TrueTrac LSD diff and 35 spline uprated axles. Brakes are AP Racing 330 mm billet 4 piston calipers and VS commodore rear discs, with a Wilwood proportioning valve and the original booster and uprated master cylinder, inside 17x8 and 17x10 OM Hotwires. Fitted to the Yella Terra lightened flywheel is a heavy duty clutch with the popular MW hydraulic master and Quartermaster concentric slave setup. Recently the exhaust was replaced with a dual over-the-diff 2.5 inch system with Magnaflow mufflers, X merge pipe and high flow catalytic converters.

The interior is largely original, except for the console, seats, upgraded seatbelts, various gauges and Retrosound radio with four Alpine SPR speakers, including 6x9s under the rear window louvre.

As shown in the photos the paint has various minor chips and scratches from the last two decades of use and maintenance. One of the front flares has a chip in the paint. The right bonnet hinge needs adjusting. The rear louvre needs adjustment in place for better fit. The rear bumper is starting to show some minor spots on the top, and there is a pin-sized rust spot on the left rear door. There are some scratches to flares, and there are two minor dents (one on the RH rear quarter) and another on the RH sill. Small surface cracks on the front of the fibreglass rear spoiler have appeared and will need to be sanded back and repainted. Available on enquiry is a professional repair quote to address all of these items for less than $5,000. Further to this, the original fuel tank should be replaced, as recent repairs of a crack at the filler neck are considered effective but not permanent.

The successful buyer could choose to refit the original motor, seats and brakes to have a genuine matching number SL/R 5000 and sell off the performance motor and quality spare parts. Or just enjoy the car as is with the option to restore back to original at a later date.

This is certainly a Torana that you will be very proud to own and is a car that turns heads and can be enjoyed and not hidden away.

Full WA registration until 12/12/2022. Located in Perth for your inspection. (Ref: 5991)

We will gladly arrange a video inspection/road test of the car using WhatsApp, and of course there is no issue with door to door transport anywhere in Australia or New Zealand.
