1986 HDT VL Commodore SS Group A - Plus Pack
Now for sale is this immaculate genuine Plus Pack equipped HDT VL SS Group A, Build no. 254, in stunning Permanent Red with immaculate Scheel trim.
This is the car that created a sensation - with Brock taking brand new Group As and adding the controversial Energy Polarizer. 173 out of the 500 produced in fact. As Holden saw no technical merit in the Polarizer and refused to fit it to the cars, Brock refused to put decals with his signature on cars without it. As a result Peter Brock's signature only appears on the higher spec Plus Pack variant.
Note in the gallery the Polarizer mounted to the RHS firewall where it does it thing. To quote the brochure of the time - "The polarizer utilises the energy generated by the vehicle. It acts on the components of the car, resulting in a quieter, smoother vehicle with more stable handling." So there you go.
The Plus Pack also included an electric fuel pump, regulator and filter, a cylinder head modification for improved cooling, revised front and rear springs, front anti roll bar, strut mounts, as well as revised front suspension geometry.
The Group A modifications to the standard VL comprised a redesigned radiator grille, colour keyed bumpers, Racing specification spoilers on the front and on the boot lid and a small grooved Induction scoop attached to the bonnet with a new cold air induction set up.
Build No. 254 is running its original matching numbers big valve 4.9 litre LV2 V8 and the robust Borg Warner T5 5 speed gearbox through to the 4 pinion Borg Warner 3.08:1 LSD diff. Fitted are the correct Group A spec extractors with the first join just 2 inches after the cylinder head flange to take advantage of the Group A rules of the day allowing for an open exhaust after the first join.
In fully restored condition this car features immaculate body and paint. The interior is fully retrimmed and the dash and gauges are all in excellent condition.
The current owner has enjoyed the car for the last 4 years. Showing 81,000 kms build No. 254 comes with HDT verification and copies of delivery paperwork and a period Owners Manual. The car is upgraded with a set of very rare genuine 16 x 8 inch MOMO star wheels and new tyres. The car is an excellent driver, and feels tight as a drum.

Vehicles offered for sale through AMCS are the responsibility of the Owner / Seller. AMCS acts as the Seller's agent and relies fully on the information provided by the Seller of the vehicle in the advertising and sale of each vehicle. AMCS takes no responsibility for the accuracy or veracity of the information provided by the Seller.
When a Buyer wishes to speak to the owner or inspect a vehicle listed for sale on the AMCS web site, AMCS will request a copy of the potential buyers driver's license or a business card along with an email address and phone number. This is provided to the seller as confirmation of the legitimacy of the buyer and the seller is then asked to contact the potential buyer to discuss the car and set up an inspection if required.
The Buyer must make his own enquiries and inspections regarding the condition, authenticity and veracity of the vehicle and any statements made by the Seller, and satisfy themselves in all aspects prior to purchasing the car from the Seller. The Buyer understands there is no warranty or guarantee offered by either the Seller or AMCS.
If upon inspection the Buyer is not satisfied with the car for any reason and does not wish to proceed with the purchase the owner is advised and any personal details are deleted from AMCS records.
If the Buyer is satisfied with the car and a price is agreed to with the Seller a formal tax invoice is prepared by AMCS and sent to the Buyer for payment to the AMCS audited Trust Account. AMCS also receives a formal Bill of Sale from the owner stating the car is free of encumbrance and noting banking details for the transaction. Once AMCS receives the total payment cleared into its trust account a transfer is then made to the Seller.
AMCS receives a fee of 7.5% (incl. GST) of the sale price for assisting the Seller to sell the vehicle. There is no fee or Buyer's premium charged to the Buyer.
